44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. Which a man having found, hid it, and for joy thereof goeth, and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.  45 Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a merchant seeking good pearls.  46 Who when he had found one pearl of great price, went his way, and sold all that he had, and bought it.  47 Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a net cast into the sea, and gathering together of all kind of fishes.  48 Which, when it was filled, they drew out, and sitting by the shore, they chose out the good into vessels, but the bad they cast forth.  49 So shall it be at the end of the world. The angels shall go out, and shall separate the wicked from among the just.  50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  51 Have ye understood all these things? They say to him: Yes.  52 He said unto them: Therefore every scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven, is like to a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure new things and old.

FUEL FOR THE FIRE

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Matthew 13:44–52  ·  Sell it all for the one field

DRAFT — CHAPLAIN REVIEW PENDING

T110 minutes before you walk in.

T2 WHERE WE ARE

Matthew 13 is one long day of parables by the sea. The crowds get stories; the Twelve get the meaning in the house. These last three — the treasure, the pearl, the net — close the set, and Jesus asks his men point-blank: Have ye understood all these things?

JOY DOES THE SELLING

The man does not sell the farm through gritted teeth. He sells it for joy — he has seen what is buried, and nothing he owns compares. If the faith feels like a tax, you have not dug where he dug.

SOME STUMBLE, SOME HUNT

The ploughman trips over the treasure; the merchant spends his life hunting the pearl. Christ honours both roads. Both end at the same counter, and the price at that counter is all.

THE NET IS NOT YOURS TO SORT

The dragnet hauls in everything, good and bad together, and the sorting belongs to angels at the end of the world. Your work at the table is to haul with your brothers — not to grade them.

OLD AND NEW, ONE STOREHOUSE

The scribe instructed in the kingdom brings out of his treasure new things and old. Bring both on Sunday: the Church’s long memory, and what God did in your week.

T4 WHAT THE CHURCH SAYS

CCC 546 — Jesus teaches in parables that call for a decision: to enter the kingdom, a man gives everything he has.

T5 A VOICE THAT GOT THERE FIRST

“Unless you sell all, you buy not; unless you have such a soul, anxious and inquiring, you find not.”

– ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM · HOMILIES ON MATTHEW, 47

c. 349–407. Fifteen centuries before your table, a bishop told working men exactly what this Sunday asks: the price of the pearl is everything.

T6 WHERE IT CUTS

You already know your field. Name the thing you have refused to sell — that is the price written on it.

OPEN THE COR

Six questions. Say the hard one out loud.

T3 PRAY US IN

Lord Jesus, You hid the kingdom where working men could find it. Open our eyes tonight, give us the joy that sells everything, and make this table honest. Amen.

T4 SEE IT

1 of 6

1What does the man in verse 44 do between finding and buying?

FOR THE MAN HOLDING THE ROOM

Keep it in the text — hid it, rejoiced, sold, bought. The order matters.

SEE IT

2 of 6

2What is different about the merchant — and what is the same?

FOR THE MAN HOLDING THE ROOM

Searching versus stumbling. Same price.

WEIGH IT

3 of 6

3Why does Jesus put joy, not duty, at the centre of the deal?

FOR THE MAN HOLDING THE ROOM

If the shares stall, read the Chrysostom line out loud and ask it again.

WEIGH IT

4 of 6

4What does the dragnet say about who does the sorting, and when?

FOR THE MAN HOLDING THE ROOM

Angels, at the end — not us, not tonight. Say that plainly; it keeps the table safe for the man about to open up.

TAKE IT

5 of 6

5What is one thing you own — a habit, a grudge, a screen — that is priced against the field?

FOR THE MAN HOLDING THE ROOM

Go first. Name yours before you ask for theirs.

ANSWER FOR IT

6 of 6

6What will you sell before Saturday, and which brother will ask you about it?

FOR THE MAN HOLDING THE ROOM

Pair them up before the closing prayer. Yes-or-no answers next week.

T5 PRAY US OUT

Father, we found the field again tonight. Give each man here the nerve to pay for it this week — and brothers who will ask him if he did. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

CARRY IT OUT THE DOOR

One act. Seven days. Yes or no.

The kingdom is bought with joy, not gritted teeth.

Finders and seekers pay the same price: everything.

Haul the net; let the angels do the sorting.

T2 THE RESOLUTION

Before Saturday, sell one thing that owns you — cancel it, delete it, or give it away — and tell a brother which one it was.

WHY

The man in the field did not negotiate; he paid the whole price the same day he found it.

Midweek nudge — Wednesday, noon: “The field is still for sale. What have you sold?”

T4 STEP 1

PRAY FIRST

It all starts with prayer — that is Inferno’s first pillar, not a nicety. Take it to the Sacred Heart and ask Him for three names. Write down the men He gives you.

STEP 2

GET YOUR THREE

You do not need twelve men. You need three brothers — that is the CLAN rung of the ladder, and every COR on the Front Range started there. Text the three names tonight. Say it plain: a table, once a week, for men who want to be saints.

STEP 3

CALL IT IN

Email mission@infernomen.com with the subject line “Inferno COR Group”, or text 719-373-1122. Denver men: shaun@infernomen.com. Inferno will put a seasoned COR leader alongside you for your first weeks — you are not inventing this alone.

STEP 4

SET THE TABLE

Pick a rhythm the standing tables already prove out: weekly or every other week, Tuesday or Thursday evening, Friday or Saturday morning. A parish hall, a kitchen, a garage. Sixty to ninety minutes. Same time, same place — consistency is what makes it a table and not an event.

STEP 5

KEEP IT C-O-R

Christ Centered — and Confidential: what is said at the table stays at the table, and that line is load-bearing. Orante — it is prayed, not just discussed. Relational — brothers, not attendance. Hold those three and the rest can flex.

T5 STEP 6

RUN THE FIRST MEETING OFF THIS APP

Open leader mode on Sunday’s FORGE. The men read the FUEL before they walk in, the six questions carry the room, and every man leaves with the CHARGE. The app holds the table up until the table holds itself — then grow toward twelve, and when you pass twelve, plant the next one. That is the 72.
